Sound pollution assessment Near some governmental and private hospitals in Baghdad

The level of sound pollution, which is a prominent feature of the environment, varies with its source. It affects the objects and buildings in its surroundings in varying proportions. Hospitals, like other buildings, are exposed to noise. And due to several hospitals are usually located close to main roads, industrial activities and commercial activities. Therefore, these buildings are highly sensitive to environmental noise in many cases (Because of the work and treatment provided by hospitals to patients, which requires rest and calm), exposed to high levels of environmental noise. The objectives of this study are to investigate the level of noise pollution which comes from different activities near several hospitals in Baghdad city. An instrument for the measurement of noise level (SVAN 955) was used on noise pollution was administered. Measurements of noise level were carried out basis from (1-30) June and during 3 selected days (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday) dividing on 4 weeks, also Measurements of noise level were carried out basis (three times Morning, afternoon, Evening) near the hospitals. The averaged noise levels measurement outside the hospital during selected days were so high than the environmental noise limit requirement according to (WHO and Iraqi determinants of noise). Finally some suggestion was given to reduce the noise level in this area.
